A 28-year-old Pacoima man who was convicted of possessing more than 100 pounds of cocaine was sentenced Friday to 28 years in state prison.

George (Danny) Trujillo was called “one of the bigger drug dealers” in the San Fernando Valley by Deputy Dist. Atty. David Mintz, who prosecuted the case in Van Nuys Superior Court.

Jurors deliberated one day before convicting Trujillo on Dec. 19 of possessing 54 kilograms of the drug when police arrested him at the former Registry Hotel in Universal City on July 12, 1989. In addition to the drug charge, Trujillo also was convicted of one count of possessing more than $100,000 used in drug trafficking.

Undercover police officers testified that they spotted Trujillo, who was known to them as a drug dealer, at the hotel while on a routine stakeout for drug traffickers. The drugs and $207,000 cash were discovered in Trujillo’s room, police said.

Trujillo already is serving an eight-year prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter for the July 10, 1989, slaying of Anthony Silva, 29. Authorities said Trujillo, who had a grudge against Silva, shot the man to death as Silva emerged from his Pacoima house.
