After listening to and reading about all of the furor over the prospect of automated cars for the Green Line, there is one prominent fact that seems to have been missed.

When the Blue Line opened 18 months ago, approximately 25 additional cars were purchased. The LACTC stated that these cars were for the Green Line, which was then just beginning construction.

Anyone can drive down the 710 Freeway during the height of the rush hour and see these cars sitting in the Blue Line maintenance yard. The Blue Line maintenance complex is on the east side of the freeway, just north of Del Amo.
