Krenek Memorial Scheduled Monday

The Ernst Krenek Archive and the department of music at UC San Diego will present a memorial for the late composer in Mandeville Recital Hall at UCSD on Monday at 3 p.m.
Krenek, who died in Palm Springs on Dec. 22, was a longtime friend of music at UCSD. At this memorial, participants will include: John L. Stewart, emeritus provost of UCSD and Krenek’s biographer, who will give an introduction; UCSD professors Carol Plantamura and Philip Larson, and former Krenek students Glenn Glasow and Will Ogdon.
Also, pianist Charlotte Zelka will play Krenek’s Fifth Sonata, which was written for her; Steven Town and Michael Ingham will sing music by the late composer, and UCSD’s SONOR ensemble, conducted by Emeritus UCSD professor Thomas Nee, will give a complete performance of Krenek’s “The Arc of Life,” Opus 234.
