AT&T; to Eliminate Up to 2,000 Non-Union Jobs: American Telephone & Telegraph Co. said it would eliminate the non-union jobs in its division that makes phone switching gear and cable. The job cuts, which primarily will affect the Chicago area, will take place over the next three months, AT&T; spokesman Rich Meyer said. The reductions represent about 6% of the 32,000 to 34,000 non-union employees in AT&T;’s Network Systems division and researchers at AT&T; Bell Labs who help design the equipment the division makes.
