Pillow Talk Gets Louder

‘I think of the collection as high trash.’ --Nicholas Graham, Joe Boxer

“The things you see in women’s sleepwear departments look like things to vacuum in,” jokes Nicholas Graham of Joe Boxer, whose new line of women’s loungewear premieres this month under the Girlfriend label at Bullock’s, the Broadway and Victoria’s Secret.

The collection was recently unveiled at the Men’s Fashion Assn. show, where models with oversize hair paraded in the same type of comical print silk robes (pictured) and cotton pajamas that won Graham the California Mart 1990 West Coast designer of the year award for menswear.

“I think of the collection as high trash,” the rarely serious designer notes, adding he hopes the new line will appeal to “drag queens and woman who frequently wear their husbands pajamas.”

On a more serious note, Graham says the clothes, featuring prints such as “Eau Da Joe” cologne and “Mule Train” Blahnik shoes, are designed with the economy in mind.

Cotton pajamas are $24; boxers, $12; robes, $35, and T-shirts, $14. Silk robes and pajamas are priced around $90.
