Richard Carpenter and his late sister, Karen, who formed The Carpenters musical duo, have become the first alums selected to the Downey Unified School District’s Hall of Fame. Richard Carpenter, 45, graduated from Downey High in 1963. Karen Carpenter, who died in 1983, graduated in 1966.
The Los Angeles City Fire Department has honored two security guards for assisting a gunshot victim last year while on duty. Jose Santana, 23, of Long Beach and Randolph Jocson, 21, of Bellflower came to the aid of a 20-year-old woman who had been shot in the leg. The two applied pressure on the wound to prevent major blood loss until Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene. Santana and Jocson are employed by Performance Protection Agency in Bellflower.
Real estate broker Leon H. Love, owner of LLove Realty and Associates of Downey, has been elected president of the 4,000-member Realty Investment Assn. of California, a nonprofit association of licensed real estate brokers, agents and affiliates.
