Carl Lewis suffered a hamstring injury and withdrew from the 60-meter final of an international track and field meet at Glasgow, Scotland.

The problem was caused by difficulties at the start of his heat, in which he finished fourth.

“My left hamstring feels tight, and there is a slight swelling,” Lewis said. “I felt I ran well, but I was unable to drive out of my blocks properly. It was a very quick gun, and I was still in the set position.

“I am used to being held for a long time. My last race was in Tokyo, where they seem to hold you forever.”

Lewis expects to be fit for the U.S. Championships on Feb. 28.
