COUNTYWIDE : Ex-Councilwoman to Chair Water Panel

Nan Drake, a former Ventura City Council member, has been elected to chair the local California Regional Water Quality Control Board for 1992.

Drake, who served as a Ventura councilwoman from 1986 to 1989, was elected by regional board members last month. She has been a member of the regional board since her appointment in 1988 by then-Gov. George Deukmejian.

Paul Flowers of Malibu was elected vice president of the water quality board, which regulates waste discharges to ground and surface water within the coastal areas of Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

The board is charged with policing industry and government to ensure their compliance with state and federal water pollution control laws.
