La Puente : Water Tower Approved
The San Gabriel Valley Water Co. received permission to build a 35-foot-tall water filtration tower at its water well and pumping facility in a residential area of the city despite concerns that it will be an eyesore.
In a 4-0 vote, with Mayor Charles H. Storing absent, the council approved the water company’s application to build the cylindrical aluminum tower, which would measure 10 1/2 feet in diameter, at the plant, 14453 Temple Ave.
One resident testified during a public hearing that the tower will not only be unsightly but will also be a natural target for graffiti.
However, Councilman Joe V. Alderete downplayed those concerns, saying the filtration system will be a welcome addition if it improves the quality of the water.
