COUNTYWIDE : Camarillo Joins Bid for Recycling Zone

Share

The Camarillo City Council voted Wednesday to apply for state assistance to lure businesses that make new products out of recycled materials.

The city will join Simi Valley, Oxnard and Ventura County in making a joint application to the California Integrated Waste Management Board to be designated a recycling market development zone.

The application has to be submitted by March 29.

For the next five years, the state will designate eight zones a year throughout California in an effort to develop markets for the state’s recyclable materials, city officials said.

Businesses locating in the zone would be eligible for state assistance through low-interest loans and tax relief, officials said.

The city would benefit because it would develop a stable local market for recyclables, officials said.

Also, the city could attract new industry to fill existing buildings and gain the potential for creating new jobs, officials said.
