An original member of the Metropolitan Homicide Task Force, fired from the San Diego Police Department after allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a task force informant, has abandoned efforts to win his job back.
Instead, former Sgt. Harold E. Goudarzi, 43, will receive back sick pay, full retirement benefits and a clean law enforcement record in exchange for his resignation, officials said.
Goudarzi, who had been with the department 21 years before being fired, was prepared to appeal his dismissal during a city Civil Service Commission hearing scheduled this week.
Instead, Goudarzi and city attorneys agreed that he would not come back to the department if he was reinstated and that he would receive benefits that he would have lost had his dismissal been upheld.
Goudarzi’s attorney, Everett Bobbitt, said Goudarzi had not planned to return to the department anyway but sought to clear his name.
Now a private investigator, Goudarzi said Tuesday he had no comment on the settlement.
