CONEJO VALLEY : Board, General Vote to Be Consolidated

Share

To save money and increase voter turnout, Conejo Valley Unified School District will consolidate school board races with general elections, the board of trustees decided Thursday.

The district spent $35,000 on its school board election in November, but would only have to spend $15,000 if the election were held this year along with other major races, officials said.

Voter turnout in the Conejo Valley’s 1991 school board election was 11%, compared with 59% for the Simi Valley Unified School District board election in November, 1990.

To accommodate the new schedule, each board member will have a year added to the current term. As a result, William H. Henry Jr., Mildred Lynch and Richard Newman’s terms will expire in 1994, and the terms of Dolores Didio and Dorothy Beaubien will expire in 1996.

The change must be approved by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. About 60,000 registered voters in the school district would be notified, at a cost to the district of $13,000.
