Supervisors Approve Public Vote on Cityhood

Share

Voters in the San Gabriel Valley community of Hacienda Heights will decide in the June 2 general election whether to incorporate as a city.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Thursday unanimously approved a cityhood election for the 68,272-population, 12 1/2-square-mile area that hugs the Pomona Freeway north of Whittier and La Habra Heights. The election also will ask voters to choose a five-member City Council if incorporation passes. The deadline for candidates to file is March 6.

A simple majority vote of voters who live in the area roughly bounded by 6th Street, Gale and Azusa avenues and the Puente Hills is needed to approve incorporation. Two previous cityhood efforts failed before coming to a public vote.
