The last of three storms will drench San Diego with up to 1 1/2 inches of rain this weekend, weather forecasters said.

After today’s partly cloudy skies, the weather will be stormy for the rest of the weekend, said Dan Atkin, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in San Diego.

“The rain on Saturday will be heavy at times, with gusty winds,” Atkin said, but will be lighter Sunday.

The incoming storm comes from the Gulf of Alaska and will be colder than the previous two storms, Atkin said.

“This storm will bring snow to the mountains at the 5,000-foot level,” Atkin said.

The winds accompanying the expected storm will arrive late Friday night, Atkin said. The winds will be southerly from 20 to 30 m.p.h., lasting through Saturday, Atkin said.

The two previous storms dropped 2.61 inches of rain in San Diego, according to the weather service. The last storm dropped .91 inches in San Diego late Wednesday night alone, Atkin said.

The rain total so far this season is 7.39 inches, he said. San Diego’s normal rainfall for an entire year is 9.32 inches, Atkin said.

At the beaches, the high temperature will be in the upper 50s all weekend, Atkin said. Waves will crest at 3 to 6 feet with occasional 8-foot breakers, he said.

Today’s high temperature in the coastal and inland areas will be 65 degrees, Atkin said. Overnight lows will be 53 in the coastal areas, and in the upper 40s in the inland areas, he said.

On Saturday and Sunday, the high temperature will peak at 61 degrees in the coastal and inland areas, Atkin said. The low temperature will be near 50 degrees on Saturday night in both areas, he said.

The low temperatures will dip even further Sunday, with the coastal area low dropping down to the 40s, and the inland areas low falling to the 30s, Atkin said.

Rain is likely in the desert by Saturday, Atkin said. Highs in the deserts will be in the 60s all weekend, he said. The low temperature will be in the 50s on Saturday night and in the 40s by Sunday night, the weather service said.

The mountains will have highs near 40 and low temperatures near 30 degrees all weekend, Atkin said.

After this weekend, the county should have a dry respite. A high-pressure system building in the region should keep the skies clear and the grounds dry at least until the end of next week, the weather service said.
