A Pasadena man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison, without possibility of parole, for the 1988 murder of a woman who was kidnaped from a shopping mall, robbed, raped and shot in the head so that she could not identify her attackers, authorities said.

Pasadena Superior Court Judge Charles C. Lee imposed the sentence on George Marvin Trone Jr., 21, as part of a plea bargain.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Walt Lewis agreed to not seek the death penalty if Trone admitted his guilt in the slaying of Lois Haro, 26, and did not appeal the life sentence.

After members of Haro’s family testified about the depth of the their loss, Lee added futher penalties fpr several lesser charges. The additional sentences make it unlikely that Trone will be freed.

Trone’s accomplice, Ronald Anthony Jones, 21, named by police as the triggerman, was convicted last year and sentenced to death.
