Special counsel James Kolts said he will be joined on the hearing panel by Claudia I. Mitchell-Kernan, vice chancellor for graduate programs at UCLA and former director of the UCLA Center for Afro-American Studies; Fred Loya, a psychologist who specializes in Latino bicultural issues, and Merrick Bobb, a former Christopher Commission attorney serving as general counsel to Kolts.

Kolts was hired by the Board of Supervisors to investigate ways to reduce lawsuits against the Sheriff’s Department, which have cost taxpayers $32 million over the last four years. He was asked to finish his report by July 15.

Anyone wishing to submit statements can send them to Kolts at the County Hall of Administration, Room 648, 500 W. Temple Ave., Los Angeles, Ca. 90012.
