** Eric Clapton, “Music From the Motion Picture Soundtrack Rush,” Reprise. Who’d have expected that one blues-rock icon (Clapton) could write a theme for a character played by another (Gregg Allman) and have it come out sounding like Tangerine Dream? After 20 minutes of uninvolving incidental music, the album closes with three vocal numbers that have their strong points. But each song is marred by busy arrangements or sugared production--the same sort of thing that has hampered Clapton’s recent studio albums.

New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to four (excellent).
