Vernon Controversy
Regarding the controversy surrounding Assistant Chief Robert Vernon and his Los Angeles Police Department “God Squad” (Feb. 5-6):
Exalted humankind forbid that members of the Southland’s largest law enforcement agency should be infected by Christianity. The very last thing the citizens of Los Angeles want is cops on the beat who exhibit any of the characteristics of Jesus--sensitivity, restraint, colorblindness, subservience, accountability, wisdom, mercy--which is what inevitably happens when people open up to the Lord.
