Tyson Eligible for Suspended Sentence, but . . .
Boxer Mike Tyson is eligible for a suspended sentence on his rape conviction because he’s a first-time offender and didn’t use a deadly weapon or seriously injure his victim.
“But I can tell you right now it’ll be a cold day in hell before that happens,” said Monica Foster, an Indianapolis defense attorney.
Tyson returns to court for sentencing on March 27 at the earliest. Among the people Superior Court Judge Patricia J. Gifford will hear in deciding the sentence will be the victim, an 18-year old Rhode Island woman.
Court rules prohibited the woman from testifying about changes in her life since the rape, but she may do so during sentencing.
