Why do those who favor the death penalty, like John J. Shannon of Costa Mesa (letter, Jan. 24), always say the only alternative is to “turn the murderers loose and let them do it again”?
The reasonable--and workable--alternative to the death penalty is life imprisonment with no possibility of parole. It wouldn’t kill you (or anyone else) to think about it.
