BASEBALL
In a game that wasn’t supposed to be played but was because each school’s regularly scheduled opponents were chased out of town by the inclement weather, San Diego State was able to avenge an earlier loss to University of San Diego with a come-from-behind 5-4 victory.
The Aztecs pecked away at the lead with one run in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the eighth to tie. The winning run was forced home on a one-out, bases-loaded walk issued by freshman reliever Travis Burgus in the bottom of the ninth.
SDSU’s Benji Grigsby pitched a perfect eighth and ninth to earn his second victory against no defeats.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Long Beach State got 17 kills from Matt Lyles and 16 from Brent Hilliard to score a 15-13, 15-9, 15-12 victory over Cal State Northridge in the championship game of the ASICS Grand Prix at San Diego State.
