Promoting ‘Buy American’

Share

The patriotic American car buyer should be aware that more is at stake than just jobs, in the world struggle for auto market share. While jobs are important, where the profits go is even more so. When an American buys a Mitsubishi Eclipse or its Eagle Talon and Plymouth variants, the profit goes to Mitsubishi. When one buys a Mazda, one-quarter of the profit goes to Ford, a 25% share owner in the company. Some Mazdas are also built in Michigan, in plants shared with Ford, thus providing American jobs and helping Ford produce such models as its Probe.
