Light showers were expected to douse much of Orange County early today, ending after the morning commute and clearing to partly cloudy skies through Wednesday, according to forecasters.

“It looks like there’s just a chance of morning showers, and I mean early morning--like before 9 a.m., then just tapering off,” said Steve Burback, meteorologist for WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

“This storm system coming in is real weak. It shouldn’t drop more than half an inch across the coastal plain. Then it should be dry for a couple of days,” Burback said.

Another storm system is lurking in the Gulf of Alaska, but by the time it reaches Southern California on Thursday, it should have little moisture left, Burback said.

“After Thursday, it should be fairly pleasant again into the weekend,” he said.

The National Weather Service predicted highs today and Wednesday in the low 60s, with southwesterly winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour.

A brief storm passed through the Southland early Monday, but dropped little moisture. Newport Beach recorded .05 inches in the 24 hours ending at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Only traces were recorded in Santa Ana and San Juan Capistrano.
