DANA POINT : 6 Candidates to Vie for 2 Council Seats

Six residents have indicated their intention to run for the two open seats on the City Council in the June 2 election.

Candidates include Jack Roberts, a retired real estate broker; J. Douglas Johnson, a teacher; John D. Bowler, director of a local drug rehabilitation program; Bill Bamattre, fire battalion chief; Judy Curreri, public health nurse; and Ernest A. Nelson, engineer. Bamattre and Curreri are incumbents.

All candidates must fill out the required forms and return them to City Clerk Katherine M. Hollywood by 5 p.m. on March 6. If one of the two incumbents chooses not to run, the filing deadline will be extended to 5 p.m. March 11.

Council candidates must be residents of Dana Point and registered voters. There is no cost to file for candidacy. However, if a candidate wishes to submit a statement of 200 words or less to be printed with the ballot, there is a charge of $250.

The June election will be the third in the history of the city, which was incorporated in January, 1989.
