Stamp of Disapproval on Rohrabacher

Share

As a taxpayer and, I thought, a constituent of Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Newport Beach), I should receive my “free mail” from Cox. I have just opened the third piece of mail from Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach)!

I am angry that a congressman (who is) not my congressman can use the franking privilege to deliver information to people with the only purpose to influence me in advance of the new boundaries for a redistricted congressional seat. This mail is not “free,” because the Postal Service charges Congress for each piece delivered, and since Congress has no money until it takes from taxpayers, I am mad!

Five years ago I was loaded with material from (Democratic) Sen. Alan Cranston that he was holding a series of meetings around the Southern California area. Who was he trying to kid? The only purpose was to remind me who one of my senators was at my expense and invoking a privilege any competitor would have had to spend millions on to buy the database and pay the setup, printing, assembly and postage costs.

Apparently Republican Dana Rohrabacher is not a “conservative.” Apparently, he has elected to use the system of incumbency at all taxpayers’ expense to promote himself in advance of the election in the new district.

I believe Mayor Jim Silva of Huntington Beach has chosen to run for Congress in the new district that carpetbagger Rohrabacher has chosen to covet. If others are as insulted by the action of Rohrabacher as I am, perhaps our local mayor, who is a family man and high school economics teacher, is a much better example of a citizen politician who will remember what we want from Washington than Rohrabacher.

As a taxpayer and believer in government of “we the people,” I resent the abuse of the excess privileges our elected officials heap on themselves.
