He’s Down on Myers, and Down on the Press

When is the press going to have the nerve to tell it like it is when it comes to Bob Myers, the Santa Monica city attorney? The man answers to no one and does not do the job he was hired to do unless it suits him. His so-called moral position is one that a majority of Americans do not share.

How can you title an article Saint Bob (The Times, Feb. 16), have a favorable subtitle, and put nothing but favorable impressions on the front page, then have column after column filled with ex-city workers calling him a bully and worse, buried in the back pages? Are you as cowed as the current city workers who refused to talk to you?

Myers is supposed to be an agent for justice, yet is incapable of seeing any other side of an issue than his own. His actions, such as his treatment of other people, suggest a hunger for power rather than moral principle.

Is it moral to take away a property owners’ rights? Is it moral to steal from property owners? I guess it’s a good thing Myers at least waves the Constitution, because he sure hasn’t read it. The average American would not tolerate restrictions on his/her income or renting his/her home that are the case under Santa Monica rent control. Unfortunately, 70% of Santa Monicans are renters and benefit from Myers’ larceny. The rest of America isn’t affected by Myers so doesn’t care.

He serves as a public servant, to do the bidding of his community and City Council. In fact, he holds the city and its people, his employers, in contempt. He has flatly refused on many occasions to fulfill his job description. That would get any of us fired. Why not Bob Myers?
