Dancing With Silence: Choreographer Eliot Feld found a way around not being able to obtain music rights to Richard Strauss’ “Four Last Songs” for a new ballet. He ordered the ballet danced in silence. His unaccompanied “Endsong” premiered last week at the Joyce Theatre in Manhattan and will be danced at UCLA on April 2. “Four Last Songs” has been used for other ballets, but the Strauss estate has recently denied choreographers permission to use music Strauss did not specifically compose for dance.
