Silver Lake-Los Feliz : 3 Held in Burglary Spree
Police have arrested three suspects in connection with at least nine cases in a rash of home and garage burglaries in the Silver Lake and Los Feliz areas in recent weeks.
Raymond Ditzler, a 32-year-old transient, was charged Feb. 19 with seven counts of residential burglary, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Dan Schultz, who supervises a special enforcement team that worked to halt the recent burglary spree.
Schultz said officers arrested two women on Feb. 12 who allegedly were trying to sell property taken in Silver Lake area burglaries. He said police were withholding the names of the women pending further investigation.
The arrests were among the first results from a new community policing strategy being tested in the Northeast area. Under the new program, Schultz said, Northeast Division officers were able to identify a neighborhood crime problem and direct officers to curtail it without having to wait for approval from top police administrators downtown.
