A 48-year-old pilot who died Saturday morning when his private plane crashed in Agua Dulce was identified Wednesday as Bobby Joe Donley of Thousand Oaks, a national transportation official said.

Donley was pronounced dead after his single-engine Grumman Yankee aircraft crashed in an open field about half a mile north of Agua Dulce Air Park, said Scott Erickson, air safety investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board. Donley was alone.

His office is investigating the cause of the crash but said there was nothing to indicate that the plane ran out of gas.

Donley took off from Camarillo Airport about 10 a.m. Saturday. It was a clear day with no hazardous weather conditions, Erickson said. The crash occurred at 10:45 a.m.

Autopsy results indicated that Donley died of multiple traumatic injuries, said Scott Carrier, spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. The results of routine alcohol and drug tests will be available in 10 days, Carrier said.
