COUNTYWIDE : CHP Issues Warning on Fund Solicitation

Share

The California Highway Patrol is warning the public to be aware of a man who poses as a CHP officer to solicit money to help collision victims.

The caller has contacted people throughout Southern California and has tried to solicit money by telling people that a business associate or a relative has been involved in an accident, CHP officer John P. Marinez said.

The caller usually requests that money be sent to a Western Union office and that it be released only to a person who knows a secret code word.

Marinez said the caller is not a CHP officer and that the CHP does not engage in such activities. Anyone solicited by the caller is encouraged to get the man’s name and number and contact the local CHP office with the information.
