A British company is developing what it calls a bomb-proof aircraft baggage container and expects to demonstrate a prototype later this year.

Spokesmen for Royal Ordnance, a subsidiary of plane maker British Aerospace, said Wednesday that the container will be made of composite materials designed to release the pressure of an explosion in an even and controlled manner.

Royal Ordnance said its new container will fit into a standard airliner and will provide a first line of defense against terrorist bombs.
