COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Wins With Five Runs in 11th

J.J. Thobe pitched three innings of no-hit relief and Rancho Santiago scored five runs in the 11th inning to defeat Golden West, 8-3, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday at Golden West.
Pinch-hitter Steve Thobe tied the score, 3-3, with a two-run double in the ninth for Rancho Santiago (8-5, 2-1 in conference). His brother, J.J., entered the game in the ninth and struck out six, improving his record to 3-1.
Steve Thobe scored the tie-breaking run in the 11th on a throwing error. Robin Lindsey then hit a grand slam off former Marina High School teammate Sean Patterson.
In Orange Empire Conference baseball:
Orange Coast 11, Fullerton 6--Duane Page (2-1) struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs, six hits and six walks. Alphonso Montoya’s two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth gave OCC an 8-5 lead.
Saddleback 10, Cypress 7--Ryan Relph hit a double in the seventh inning to drive in two runs and put Saddleback (7-3-1, 3-0) ahead by one. Saddleback scored two more runs in the inning.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Riverside 4, Cypress 1--Virginia Vaioletama hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first and pitched a one-hitter for host Riverside (8-6, 1-0). Corrie Frederick scored the only run for Cypress (10-4, 0-1) in the top of the first after reaching base on an error and scoring on a wild pitch.
