KGIL-AM Creates Fund for Victims of Arson

A radio station has set up a trust fund for a Santa Clarita family left homeless by fire for the second time in four months.

KGIL-AM set up the fund to help Raul Martinez and Lorraine Favela and their four children, victims of two recent fires.

The first fire occurred in October when faulty electrical wiring gutted a house the family rented in Canyon Country. On Tuesday, a blaze set by an arsonist burned part of another house the family rented after the first fire.

The second fire, which caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, was confined largely to one room, but the intense smoke permeated furniture and clothing that had recently been donated by local charities, leaving most of the family’s belongings unusable.

Martinez, a letter carrier for the Postal Service, and his family have been staying in a local motel because they are afraid the arsonist might return.

Contributions may be sent to KGIL-AM; 14800 Lassen St.; Mission Hills, 91345; Attn.: Debbie Farr. Checks should be made out to Raul Martinez.
