The up-and-down season of Doc Rivers took another downward turn Saturday when Rivers was put on the injured list after severely spraining his left ankle in Friday’s game against the Miami Heat.

Rivers played two minutes in the first quarter of the 108-92 victory over the Heat in the Sports Arena before injuring his ankle with four minutes to play in the period. Precautionary X-rays show no fracture, but he is expected to be out of the lineup at least two weeks.

Rivers will undergo additional tests Monday.

He joins center James Edwards on the sidelines. Edwards also sprained his ankle in Friday’s game, in the third quarter, but he came back to play seven minutes in the fourth and the injury is not believed serious. He will miss tonight’s game at Orlando and will be re-examined Monday. His status then will be determined for Tuesday’s game at Miami.
