Police Seek 2 After Grocery Store Holdups

Los Angeles police were searching Sunday for two men suspected in a string of armed holdups at supermarkets around the San Fernando Valley.

The two are believed to have robbed four markets since Friday, stealing several thousand dollars in cash, Sgt. Lee Allen said. Armed with a shotgun and an automatic handgun, the men generally move customers to the front of the store, and steal cash from registers and floor safes, Allen said.

In the most recent robberies, the men robbed two markets within 30 minutes Sunday morning. Allen said the men escaped about 5 a.m. with about $200 from the Hughes Markets store at 10400 Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills, then took about $3,000 from the Ralphs Grocery Co. market at 7225 Woodman Ave., Van Nuys, half an hour later.
