Improvements Overlooked

Share

A friend of mine sent me a clipping of an article in The Times dealing with the renovation of Santa Paula High School (“School Fix-Up,” Feb. 26). As business manager of Santa Paula High School during the 1950s, I take issue with the statement that the campus “had not been renovated since the 1930s.”

During the ‘50s, for example, the cafeteria and office building, the boys’ gymnasium, the agricultural building and the girls’ gymnasium were renovated, and classrooms were built in the upper court. Also in this period, the library and science classrooms were renovated.

I am certain that, after all these years, the school needed substantial refurbishing, but that is no reason to denigrate the school’s past.
