LOS ANGELES : Lungren Outlines Safety Proposals at High School
- Share via
California Atty. Gen. Dan Lungren visited a Los Angeles high school this week and outlined a series of school safety proposals, including allowing schools to use metal detectors in an effort to keep weapons off campus.
Lungren discussed his ideas with students, parents, teachers and law enforcement officers at Manual Arts High School, which has garnered attention recently for its efforts to deal with school violence and gang activity.
Lungren said that schools should have the option of using metal detectors if they can find no other way to stop the proliferation of weapons on campus. He also proposed strengthening state legislation prohibiting guns and drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, and making it mandatory that schools create safety plans and open them to public review.
