Hearing on Trash Rates Rescheduled

MISSION VIEJO — A public hearing to discuss trash rates that was scheduled for Monday has been postponed because notification of the meeting was not made 10 days before the hearing date.
City officials said Friday that the hearing has been reset for March 23, when the City Council meets.
Last fall, the city unilaterally froze the trash-hauling rate and rejected a move by Dewey’s Rubbish Service Inc. to increase the monthly charge for residential disposal from $11.85 to $12.95.
For over a year, the city has been embroiled in a dispute with Dewey’s Rubbish over the firm’s billing practices. Among other things, the two sides disagree over whether the firm overestimated the amount of garbage hauled from Mission Viejo households.
