A parolee who shot and killed a taxi driver during a robbery attempt just six days after he was released from prison was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in state prison.

Brian Keith Milligan, 26, was sentenced for July 6, 1991, slaying of David Curtiss Brown, 36. Brown was shot to death while waiting in his Radio Cab Co. taxi in a Logan Heights alley.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Charles Hayes imposed other terms consecutively of five years and eight months for possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm by an ex-felon, and for having two prior felony convictions.

Milligan pleaded guilty earlier to second-degree murder, cocaine possession and weapons violations. He had been released from prison June 30 after serving a sentence for petty theft with a prior conviction of assault.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Kristin Anton said the same gun used to kill Brown was used again in a sexual assault against a woman. “Crime is a way of life for Mr. Milligan. He simply cannot live in society and abide by society’s rules,” Anton said.
