New Transportation Chief Takes Oath, Is Praised by Bush
Andrew H. Card Jr., whom President Bush called “one of this town’s best-kept secrets,” received a ceremonial welcome Wednesday as the nation’s transportation secretary.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas administered Card the oath of office at the National Air and Space Museum.
Bush praised Card, a political supporter who has served as his deputy chief of staff, as “a proven leader, a talented manager.”
Card, 44, pledged to “create jobs now and to assure safety, accessibility and efficiency in our nation’s transportation system.”
Card also was sworn in Feb. 24, in a private ceremony at the White House.
