Pro, Con Responses to Q & A With Galanter

It is incredible that Councilwoman Ruth Galanter could believe that she should have hegemony over growth at LAX simply because it is in her district. The constituents and their council members in other districts, as well as regional communities, have as much interest in the LAX developments as those in the Sixth District.

Ruth Galanter haranguing about the Westside traffic congestion attributable to LAX (25%), is just an attempt to find a scapegoat for the devastating traffic congestions caused by massive Westside developments, which she approved. Instead of griping about the 25% of the traffic due to LAX, over which she has nil control, Ruth Galanter should focus on the incremental increase to the 75% that will be caused by the Channel Gateway project (under construction), and other massive developments such as Playa Vista and the Hughes Center along Sepulveda Boulevard, over which she could exercise significant control.

Further, the sewage outfall line that goes under the airport appears to preempt the future use of tunnels that could mitigate the traffic problems by permitting unobstructed movement of passengers within the airport complex, as well as providing a connecting point for the Green Line-to-airport and points north, which would enhance the traffic flow in the area and thereby reduce congestion.

The Playa Vista Project will be an environmental disaster if it is developed as planned. Since the Playa Vista Project has the blessing of Ruth Galanter, the best hope of squashing it is for the County Supervisors not to approve the sale of the county land to the developer, which is needed for the new marina.
