Rep. Rohrabacher Endorses Flores

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores has won the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Long Beach) in her bid to win a South Bay congressional seat.

In a press release issued by the Flores campaign, Rohrabacher urged Republicans to support the councilwoman in her bid for the GOP nomination in the newly created 36th Congressional District, which stretches from San Pedro to Venice.

“We need more conservative, no-nonsense representatives like Joan in Washington,” the release quoted Rohrabacher as saying. The congressman could not be reached for comment, but a spokeswoman in his office confirmed that Rohrabacher has indeed endorsed Flores.

Flores is one of 10 Republicans competing for the GOP-leaning 36th District seat. Among the others is Maureen Reagan, whose father, Ronald Reagan, employed Rohrabacher as a speech writer while he was President.

The seat became open when Rohrabacher, the incumbent best positioned to win the district because he represents several of the South Bay cities in it, decided to run instead in a newly drawn district in Orange County.
