A Walnut man plunged to his death in his car after being cut off by another driver during an apparent traffic dispute in Pomona, a police lieutenant said Saturday.

The victim was William Teano, 47, who was driving north on Temple Boulevard shortly after midnight Saturday when he got into a dispute with another driver, 27-year-old Jeffery Brewer, said Lt. Bela Laszlo of the Pomona Police Department.

“Apparently, it was a traffic dispute,” Laszlo said. “Brewer made some lane change first, and Teano didn’t like it and they began cutting each other off.”

During the dispute, Teano lost control of his car and ran off the road near Pomona Boulevard, Laszlo said. The vehicle plunged 100 feet over an embankment and landed in a concrete flood control channel. Teano died at the scene.

With the help of a witness, police arrested Brewer at his Pomona home on charges of felony hit-and-run and leaving the scene of an accident, Laszlo said. He was released on $5,000 bail.
