County Supervisors

Share

My scalp is raw. I’ve scratched and scratched my head trying to solve a mystery: What work do the Los Angeles County supervisors do?

They “delegate” the budget to the “experts” (a measly 12 billion taxpayers’ dollars). They “delegate” the pension plan to the “experts” (a mere 50 million, projected cost, in taxpayers’ dollars).

They “delegate” malpractice suit settlements to the “experts” ($26.6 million for 1990-1991).

As Supervisor Deane Dana admonished Gloria Molina, “The system is quite efficient and a newcomer should try to learn from the experts.”

Then, suddenly, I stopped scratching. They do accomplish a lot. It’s just that they hold their serious decision-making meetings in secret. The public isn’t privy to all the hard work they do (March 1).

I’ve solved the mystery. They do a lot.
