Eddie Cook of Las Vegas won the World Boxing Assn. bantamweight championship, knocking out champion Israel Contreras of Venezuela in the fifth round of their scheduled 12-round bout.
Cook, 25, now is 17-1 with 15 knockouts. Contreras, 31, is 35-3-1 with 25 knockouts.
