COUNTYWIDE : Vasquez Reappointed to Justice Council

Share

Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez announced Monday that Gov. Pete Wilson has reappointed him to serve on a statewide panel that recommends policy on criminal justice issues and provides grants for local law enforcement agencies.

Vasquez will serve an open-ended term on the California Council on Criminal Justice. A Republican, he was named to the panel in 1989 by then-Gov. George Deukmejian.

“It is an honor to have been reappointed to this council,” said Vasquez in a prepared statement. “I’m pleased to have the opportunity to continue my efforts in working to improve California’s criminal justice system.”

The council is made up of 37 members, including the state attorney general and delegates appointed by the governor and members of the state Legislature. Also named as a member from Orange County earlier this year was Collene Campbell, a San Juan Capistrano resident who became active in victims’ rights reform after her son was murdered a decade ago.

In recent years, the council has focused its study and recommendations on drugs, gangs, youth violence and victims’ rights, among other issues. It also oversees the allotment of $133 million annually in state and federal grants to local law enforcement agencies.
