CAMARILLO : 3 Plans for Sammis Parcel to Be Shown

Share

An architect hired by a citizens committee will present three plans Saturday for an 86.5-acre site where the Sammis Co. had proposed building a factory outlet mall.

The Sammis Co. withdrew its proposal for the outlet mall in November amid strong public opposition. The company then appointed the 19-member committee to come up with an alternative plan for the site that would be more acceptable to the public.

Peter Calthorpe, a San Francisco-based architect, will listen to community reaction to the proposals before drawing up a final plan to be presented at the final workshop April 11.

Suggestions for the property at the southeast corner of Pleasant Valley Road and the Ventura Freeway include athletic facilities, a golf course, a lake, affordable housing, a school, and a civic or cultural center, Browning said.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Camarillo Community Center, 1605 Burnley St.
