Target: ‘Hidden Hurts’

“Healing Hidden Hurts That Haunt Our Health, Hope and Happiness” is the title of a workshop being presented today by Rhea Zakich at United Methodist Church of Garden Grove.

The workshop is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $20.

On Sunday, a retirement celebration will be held for Bishop Jack Tuell of the California-Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church. The celebration will be co-sponsored by the church’s Long Beach and Santa Ana districts. The theme is, “On This Rock, I Will Build My Church.”

The Rev. Joan Dunn-Carter will announce her predictions of world events tonight at 7:30 at the Metaphysical Fellowship Church in Stanton. She is the co-founder of the church.

Bob Silverman and Carol Forbes will lead a two-day seminar that begins today called, “A Course in Miracles.” Silverman is the author of “When a Man Turns Forty.” Forbes is a lawyer who founded the Congressional Clearinghouse on Women’s Rights.

The annual Masterworks Concert will be held Sunday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. Brahms’ “Requiem” will be performed at 7 p.m. by the Sanctuary Choir, 30-piece orchestra and soloists Melissa Boettner and Brad McMurray. Don Fontana is conductor. On Wednesday night, the Serendipity singles series continues with guest speaker Greg Cynaumon, director of clinical relations for Minirth-Meier Clinic West. His topic will be “But That Isn’t What I Thought You Meant!!” He is co-host of a daily nationally syndicated radio program and author of “Helping Single Parents . . . Troubled Kids.”

On March 28, psychologist John Fry will lead a workshop entitled, “Coping Skills for Worries, Dark Thoughts and Down Day: Stress Management for the ‘90s.” The cost of the open workshop is $10, which includes a continental breakfast. A concert by the the StorySingers” from Washington state will be presented Sunday at the Golden Circle Church of Religious Science in Santa Ana.
