* * * Jerome Rusch, “Bright Moments,” Jeru Records. Trumpeter Rusch risked being overshadowed by including such powerhouses as saxophonist Clifford Jordan, trombonist Slide Hampton and guitarist Mike Stern on this album, recorded in 1983 and 1991. But Rusch’s assured, intelligent improvisations and ensemble playing stand shoulder to shoulder with fine work from front-liners Jordan and Hampton. Equally smart is his selection of tunes, a roster that runs from Joe Henderson’s “The Kicker” and Charles Lloyd’s “Forest Flower”--both done as duets with bassist Herbie Lewis--to Harold Land’s “The Peace Maker.”
