Oklahoma City Wins NAIA Crown, 82-73
Defending champion Oklahoma City wrapped up a perfect season and its second NAIA championship Monday night when Darrin Terry sank four clinching free throws in the final 90 seconds of overtime for an 82-73 victory over Central Arkansas.
The Chiefs, who beat Central Arkansas by three points in last year’s title game, ended the season 38-0 and own an NAIA-record 54-game winning streak.
Smokey McCovery had two three-point plays as Oklahoma City took a 73-69 lead in the first overtime in an NAIA title game since 1986. The Chiefs were not headed.
Joe Sitkowski, who fouled out 17 seconds into overtime, led Central Arkansas (28-5) with 32 points.
Former Kentucky player Eric Manuel had 18 points for Oklahoma City, which overcame an eight-point second-half deficit.
